Inspiration and celebration were the order of the evening when Laisterdyke Leadership Academy staged its inaugural Presentation Awards Ceremony in late March.

Celebrating pupil achievements and attendance in the 2015/16 academic year, the glittering ceremony was held in Aagrah’s stunning Midpoint Suite. Hosts for the evening were Year 11 prefects Khadija Nakhuda and Maira Hussain, who both did a fantastic job of making sure the evening ran well and keeping us all entertained.

We were delighted to welcome back former pupil Dr Aisha Ismail as our guest speaker. Pupils were inspired to hear of Aisha’s further study and work since leaving Laisterdyke in 2005. After studying medicine at the University of Leeds, Aisha has worked in various hospitals and medical centres around the world including in Dubai.  Aisha now works at Pinderfield Hospital in Wakefield where she will soon qualify as a GP.

Addressing our award winners, Aisha spoke proudly of the many opportunities she received at Laisterdyke and recalled some of her school memories. She paid particular tribute to the care and support she received during her years at Laisterdyke, and inspired current pupils to never settle for mediocrity and to always follow their passions.

A total of 22 awards across four different categories were presented on the evening, a full summary of which can be found below.

The awards event, which will become an annual event in Laisterdyke’s calendar, also acknowledged those pupils who did not win awards this year but nonetheless continue to make a very valuable contribution to life at the Academy.
