Wellbeing

Health

Laisterdyke Leadership Academy is working towards becoming a Healthy School.

Healthy School status is not just about providing healthy meals and regular exercise for our students. It is about ensuring that we are caring for the physical and mental wellbeing of all members of our school community.

Working with the leadership team and all faculties, we will review the things we do well, to inform how we can improve. We will be starting new initiatives and making changes to ensure we are having a positive impact on the health of our students and staff.

Our aim is to achieve a Healthy Schools Bronze rating, working towards Silver and Gold.

This scheme has been designed to recognise and encourage schools to contribute to students’ health and wellbeing. More details about the Healthy Schools Award can be found by clicking the link below.

Our ambition is to also achieve the Healthy Schools Award, which is a much more comprehensive scheme. By achieving the Healthy Schools Award, we will demonstrate that we are promoting good physical, social, emotional and mental health, and equipping our pupils, staff and families with the skills and attitudes to make informed decisions about their health. We recognise the importance of investing in health and wellbeing, to help raise our young people’s achievement levels and aspirations.

Healthy Eating

We are excited to be able to offer a new menu of tasty and healthy lunch options through our new catering partner, Mellors.

For your convenience, we are asking our parents to use only our e-payment method, ‘ParentPay’, to pay for catering services.  ParentPay can also be used to pay for school activities and trips that incur a charge.

ParentPay is a very secure online payment system adopted by many schools and academies across the country for this purpose.

All parents will be provided with a ParentPay account by the academy.

Mental Health

Our message to pupils is “whatever the difficulty that you are experiencing, you are not alone. There are many ways in which we can help you, both inside the school, and outside the school. Whatever it is that is bothering you, please find someone you can talk to. Talking to someone you can trust is the first step towards making things better. Please do not suffer in silence.”

At Laisterdyke Leadership Academy, pupils have access to a wide range of staff, ranging from form tutors to members of the Senior Leadership Team. It is important that if pupils are struggling, worried or just not feeling themselves, that they can go to a member of staff that they can trust and confide in.

All staff at Laisterdyke Leadership Academy are here to help, and support pupils to help them to grow, develop and to keep safe.

We have four members of staff who are qualified Mental Health First Aiders.  These are Ms Saumel, Mr Mohammed, Miss Shah and Miss Bibi.

There is also plenty of help and support available outside of school. We would always signpost you to some of these websites and support agencies so that you are able to access support whenever you need it.

Health and wellbeing, including mental wellbeing are integral elements of our PSHE curriculum, from Year 7 to Year 11.
