Enrichment

What is Enrichment?

Through Enrichment opportunities, we aim to enrich young people’s school experience to pursue academic goals through non-traditional means, to engage pupils in the wider community and teach important social and emotional life skills.  We also want to provide opportunities for them to enjoy themselves!

What is the purpose of Enrichment?

The purpose of enrichment is to provide extended learning opportunities that branch out from the academic, technical and vocational, it gives students the opportunity to study concepts with greater depth, breadth and complexity, while also helping students to pursue their own areas of interest and strengths, developing skills and attributes that can be used in future career pathways. At Laisterdyke Leadership Academy, we believe all students deserve a well-rounded, culturally rich, education. When will enrichment take place and what is our aim? Approaches to enrichment may happen during or outside of normal school hours. Lunchtime enrichment activities take place each day. In addition, we also offer after-school enrichment sessions as per the programme below.  Our aim is to ensure that 100% of students can access our enrichment programme through either lunchtime or after-school enrichment provision.

How do students sign up for an enrichment club?

Pupils are provided with information about what clubs are on offer, the time and where these clubs take place during form time and assemblies.  The programme is also advertised throughout the school.  Pupils will then inform their form tutor of their choice of club(s) and attendance is monitored on a weekly basis. It is also important to stress that pupils attending our after-school enrichment offer, will need to inform parents/carers of what club they are attending and the timings of the club.

Rewards

Celebrating excellent attendance

Laisterdyke leadership Academy expects all pupils to attend school every day, we set the standard that all pupils need to aim for 100% attendance. We celebrate attendance by various means

Weekly basis via the 100% attendance draw for KS3 and KS4 where two pupils receive a £20 Amazon voucher for 100% attendance.

Half termly basis reward assemblies where pupils received half termly certificates for 100% attendance.

Every term we run STAR citizens award events where pupils with 100% attendance, excellent behaviour take part in reward trips locally.

End of term 100% attendance draw takes place where pupils have the chance to win an iPad, laptop or bike.

Every year we give our pupils 100% attendance badges to wear to show excellent attendance for the previous year.

Celebrating academic endeavour

Laisterdyke leadership Academy sets high expectations for pupils and we regularly monitor academic endeavour. Pupils receive on a weekly basis the chance to be STAR of the Week for each faculty area. Pupils receive positive post cards home on a weekly basis.

Every half term we select Star of the Half term awards for the pupil who stand out in each faculty. Reward post cards are given to pupils every half term for reaching each milestone as seen in the table below.

STAR excellence

This year we will run a STAR event for pupils and parents to celebrate excellent outcomes received by pupils in each faculty area across both KS3 and KS4, pupils will be rewarded with a certificate and a STAR excellent plaque by a special guest.

Celebrating those who display our STAR values

The Star Diploma embodies the school’s ambition to develop well-rounded, ethical and accomplished leaders of tomorrow. It is a prestigious award implemented across all Star schools.

The Diploma comprises three elements of Attendance, Behaviour and Community Service, which together provide a formal structure that:

  • encourages positive conduct and pupils’ commitment to their education;
  • promotes SMSC and fosters active citizenship and community involvement;
  • develops more rounded individuals by extending pupils’ education, experiences and personal growth beyond their academic study;

Award of the Star Diploma recognises not only the holder’s outstanding conduct; but also reflects how they will embrace their role as a future citizen in the wider society in which they will live and to which they will contribute.

Star Diploma Overview

The Star Diploma is a points-based award. Pupils accrue points across each of the three elements over the course of an academic year. Scores are assigned to activity in each element. Thirty Star points are available in total over the three indicators as set out below.

Achievement of the Star Diploma is recognised at four award levels based on the total Star points accrued at the end an academic year:
