Laisterdyke Leadership Academy is celebrating after its pupils overcame the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic to complete their GCSEs.

Sitting exams for the first time since 2019, pupils have valiantly overcome two years of disruption to their education, following periods of lockdowns, self-isolation and illness.

Staff and parents have today been celebrating with pupils at the school as they progress onto the next stage of their education or training.

Saima Ali achieved the top grade of 9 in four subjects – Double Science, Maths and Geography – along with a grade 8 in English Literature and a grade 7 in English Language.

Naheeda Kalam was also on cloud nine after securing the top grade 9 in one of her Double Science GCSEs, along with grade 9s in English Language and Maths.

Fellow pupil Laaraib Akhtar also came away delighted with her results, achieving grades 9 and 8 in Double Science, along with a grade 8 in Maths and grade 7s in English Literature and Geography amongst her results.

Steve Dixon, Principal at Laisterdyke Leadership Academy, said:

“To see so many happy faces today, celebrating together, has been incredibly heart-warming for me.

“Our pupils have faced some unprecedented challenges throughout their education so I hope this day has made it all worthwhile.

“Our staff have been with them every step of the way, so I would like to thank them for making sure they provide our pupils with the best possible chance of achieving their ambitions.

“Congratulations to all of those receiving results today and I wish our pupils a bright future in whatever they choose to pursue next.”
